help.motime.com

This is the place to post problems, questions and solutions about using mo'time.

Read me:

how to post here:

[1] write a Mo'mail to howard asking to be invited to join this blog.

[2] check your mo'mail within 24 hours or so and accept the invitation.

[3] you will then see this blog listed among your blogs.

[4] click on the name of this blog and post as you would to any of your own blogs. That's it!

P.S. Anyone can comment, of course, but try to keep your comments somewhat relevant to the post. Mo'mail howard for further clarifications.

strange message

Yesterday, when I went to comment on Lying Bastard and some other blog, I got a message that I was only allowed to post 10 comments in an hour and couldn't, therefore, do it.  I'm fairly sure that I hadn't made 10 comments, so if not, what's going on?
Thanks,
Diana

my password

If possible, please disregard my earlier request for a new password - I had forgotten that I changed it the other day and forgot to record that in my organizer - but have since remembered it.  Sigh. and Thanx.

subscriber list

OK, a little whine, and I couldn't quite find the right cheese. Nor my subscriber list.

Back story: dishwashersafe is "owned" by my "giuli812" ID. (OK, so I have dual motime personality.) So, all administrative stuff is under the 812. I log-in using that ID and go to Community under which, I believe, the subscriber list should be located, but I keep getting the invite-someone page. I'm getting the impression that I should have at least a "friend" in order to have the subscriber list somewhere, 'cause hey, if you don't have friends, you can't expect to have a subscriber, can you? Right.

What am I missing?

(Hello, Howard. :D)

RSS Feed

Ok... I have yet to join the rss revolution.  I'm just not that interested in most things.  But NOW it's coming back to bite me because I've joined a site that will link to my blog and it's asking for the rss info.  What are they wanting me to do???  I don't have it.  I don't get it.  Help?

Hey hey hey

It was a relatively painful day up until now if you were trying to blog, and a pretty great day if you weren't.

The problems seem to be resolved.

New posts disappeared?

Sickness must be making me crazy - I was sure that I hit "publish post" after writing a new post this morning.  It shows that I updated my blog.  Yet, I can't see it when I go to view my blog.  Is it just me and my brain in thick fog?

Kernel panic!!

Sorry sorry sorry. (Scusateci!)

Last night, at around 7:00 p.m. here in the boot-shaped country (GMT +1), Mo'time went down down down.

We had a major crash -- a kernel panic (gotta love the name). The server froze, some files were corrupted, we did some reconstruction and restoring and you are reading this as a result of a successful first aid operation.

Please accept my humble apologies.

Spam spoiling motime?

Been away for a time and it seems the spam issue has still not been resolved. Having to delete 20 max at a time is also a pain in the neck.

Is there anyway of stopping this I am really fed up with it now

Okay am I the only one deeply disturbed by the default avatar for people who don't set theirs?   Reminds me of Friday the 13th.

TipicIM

Howard, I was erasing files from my computer and I erased TipicIM by accident. I downloaded the program all over again from the web site I left as a comment on Mafidl's post. The download went fine, but when I tried to install it I got an error message and it was a VIRUS!!! Good thing I have like 20 anti-virus installed and I killed the freaking thing in time. I just wanted to let you know so that you alert others in case they want to download it. Is there any way I can give this report to Tipic.com?

IM

Good Grief - I seem to be having the same old problem once again - when I tried to Open chat - I got the Java Applet error message and ...  Not that I try to use it regularly - but it would be nice to use it now and again.

Private blog

I would like to make my blog "members only". But whenever I click the radio button in "Settings > Basic", it reverts back to the public setting. What's wrong?

Sudden flood of pron spam!

Am I the only one who within the last two days or so has been deluged with unusually graphic spam? I've gotten over 35 such comment spams within the past day. Even moderating the comments has proved unwieldy.

There must be some way to prevent this scourge short of hunting down spammers and hanging them by their thumbs. I propose that Motime draft a Spam Death Squad, composed of those bloggers both technically proficient and hoarse with rage. This Death Squad should be given a draft blog, with any permissions and administrative access necessary, to secure against spammers. Let them try out whatever they think will work cleanest, quickest, and most efficiently. Then, when an anti-spam method has proven itself effective and Motime-friendly, the Death Squad could hire mercenaries to assassinate the spammers.

A way to stop comment spam?

Free Captcha scripts might work. It would involve adding a little PHP server-side, but no more than 40 lines of code should be necessary. If comment page code was accessible, I'm sure some motimer would figure out a way to combat this scourge client-side.

How do I subscribe again?

Dear Howard
I changed the credit card on my PayPal and it cancelled my subscription. I have asked them to reinstate it but may need to do it again from this end.

Motime ate my javascript and Css adds

I tried to install a Lightbox script. I put the script in, added the CSS classes necessary, and... it disappeared from my template. I tried it again, this time making absolutely sure everything was properly tagged and commented out- no trace of it. Strangely enough after a browser restart and page reload the script seemed to have worked, but did nothing (instead of creating a cool over-lay of my thumbnail the page just hung). After another restart clicking the image worked as it normally does.

Was this a glitch, or does Motime censor overly long scripts or scripts containing stuff like window-dimension grabbing functions?

Update: The code and the hanging-page effect reappeared after another couple reloads. Still did nothing; I think I'll just have to wait on it.

Non-motime users commenting

Howard, is there a way where my non-motime user friends (they do not have motime accounts) can put their names as authors when they comment (instead of 'Unlogged Visitor')? Thanks.

Any way to backup blog posts?

hi, is there any way to backup all my blog posts? I heard there is a kind of standard interface of blog,  called " MetaWeblog API". Did you implement it in mo'time?
In fact I want to synchronize my blog to some other BSP, because motime.com seems to be banned by China so some of my friends in China can't visit motime now. It's so sad.

Community Glitch

Hi All,

The Community tab on the top of the screen has been glitchy for a bit now.  I was figuring someone else would report it or notice, but not yet it seems.

When one clicks on the Community tab, it only brings you to the invite page and doesn't give you the other community suboptions such as Digest (the one I use the most).

If one clicks on Mo'mail from the main page all of the sub options are there, and if one types in directly to get to the digest page they are all there then also.

Good luck in fixing this one!  Thanks for the wonderful service you provide us.  Yeah Motime!

Second, I have written a couple of posts and they aren't showing up. I can only view them in my editor. What's up wit dat?

EDIT: My posts have shown up...finally. But I'm still having a problem with the logging out.

digest

I emailed Howard about the fact that although Jackal was on my friend's list, she didn't appear on my digest when she posted.  He suggested that I delete her, then add her again - but there's a problem.  When I try to re-add her on my contacts list, I then get a blank screen that says done, but she hasn't been added.  I even tried re-starting my computer - didn't help.  I assume that I'm doing something wrong - but what?

Firefox Window Oddness

Hello you

Noticed a teensy bug when Firefox opens windows in the WYSIWYG editor, such as when you go to make a link.

No buttons!

they used to be there, but now they are gone. Actually, the windows have always been a bit odd in Firefox. The smiley window for example never opens large enough to let me see all the little folks in there - not that it's a biggie.

Anyway, just a heads up really.

Take care!

Byeeeeeee!!!!

Counter problems

Sorry for the very small whine, but, Howard, my counter isn't working and I can't remember what to do to fix it.  Here is a smile as down-payment on the magic elixir formula.
